An Invitation to Join #ChangeTheNow
In 2018 Georgian College, Canada’s first Ashoka Changemaker College, wanted to know if they could mobilize students from kindergarten to Post Secondary into a movement, effectively building a region of Changemakers. It was from here that #ChangeTheNow began.
Do good to do well
#ChangeTheNow was created on the beliefs that small acts can lead to big change and collaborations can turn into largescale movements. We believe together students’, educators’ and communities’ ideas can spark systems shifts that make will make our communities greener, healthier, safer, stronger and more inclusive!
Will you join us in creating the positive change and contribute to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals?

🤔 Reflection question
After learning about how to empathize with the people affected by your SDG’s social issue, how you might apply empathy to working with the members on your CTN Innovation Team?
Kevin's Answer
Empathy mapping played a vital role in comprehending the task's pain points, providing diverse perspectives from the SGD's end and individual contributors. Understanding actors' emotions helped shape effective recommendations for raising awareness about sustainable food practices to combat climate change. Embracing empathy is crucial in addressing others' predicaments and valuing team members' opinions for better interactions. It made me realize the significance of stepping into the shoes of those affected by climate change to find viable solutions. This task yielded valuable solutions for the challenges people face due to climate change, by empathetically connecting with their vulnerable situations.

🤔 Reflection question
How might you explain the value of you having a systems-thinking mindset when attempting to define and understand a complex problem?
Natasha's Answer
Determining and understanding complex issues such as food miles requires a systems-thinking mindset. Using this approach, we can appreciate the interconnectedness of different elements and see the problem from a variety of angles. We can discover the root causes of a problem by examining the root causes of the problem rather than just identifying the visible surface issues. Further, engaging with stakeholders and Team members can assist in figuring out the problem.

🤔 Reflection question
What did you personally learn about the process of creating your team canvass?
Natasha's Answer
In order to understand each other and align their personal goals with common ones, teams use the team canvas to become more familiar with each other, to identify the strength and weakness of each team member, as well as their expectations. In order to decide the needs and expectations for the project, we were able to collaborate together.

🤔 Reflection question
How might ideation help you develop your active listening skills to brainstorm and reflect on ideas effectively with your team?
Lisa Marie's Answer
Being able to collaborate, form ideas together, and conceptualize our thoughts as a team, we were able to understand everyone's perspective and have a wider range of understanding of the project. The concept of ideation has effectively helped the team discern what points to consider and what do we need to disregard. Furthermore, as an individual, ideation has helped me become more empathetic and reflective of other people's thoughts and it has enhanced my critical thinking skills as well. Additionally, this made me realize how significant other people's viewpoints are to formulate a more effective and efficient solution.

How might you explain the value of you having a systems-thinking mindset when attempting to define and understand a complex problem?
Lisa Marie's Answer
The value of having a systems-thinking mindset helps the team to understand the situation and the relation of the idea to come up with possible solutions. This is vital, especially for a complex problem like comprehending SDG 13 and planning a layout for the current project, because the team gets to recognize the different factors associated with the project and be able to narrow down our ideas into something more feasible and comprehensible. Moreover, this mindset helps the team realize the most pressing problems of the project and be able to configure a more realistic and impactful plan to address them effectively.

🤔 Reflection question
How might the prototype & test stage help you with overcoming a fear of failure or challenging your assumptions about what is ‘right’?
Masira's Answer
Prototyping helps us test our final design at a smaller scale using lesser resources do that we can modify it as per the response to that prototyping. Every plan might not be perfect and may require constant modifications till we get it right, so when we prototype we can better understand what we did is right and what can be changed to make it better. Doing this we can remove the fear of failure as we know we can make changes and not waste the work done till now but take it as a sign to build up from that point and when we have prototyped multiple times we can now put greater resources in place and see better results.
