An Invitation to Join #ChangeTheNow
In 2018 Georgian College, Canada’s first Ashoka Changemaker College, wanted to know if they could mobilize students from kindergarten to Post Secondary into a movement, effectively building a region of Changemakers. It was from here that #ChangeTheNow began.
Do good to do well
#ChangeTheNow was created on the beliefs that small acts can lead to big change and collaborations can turn into largescale movements. We believe together students’, educators’ and communities’ ideas can spark systems shifts that make will make our communities greener, healthier, safer, stronger and more inclusive!
Will you join us in creating the positive change and contribute to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals?

🤔 Reflection question
How might you explain the value of you having a systems-thinking mindset when attempting to define and understand a complex problem?
Gurpreet's Answer
Adopting a systems-thinking approach can be a very useful technique when describing or understanding a complex subject. This technique explores how one element interacts with and influences the others by approaching the problem as a system rather than a collection of discrete elements. Consequently, by understanding the connections and interconnected relationships between the many parts of the system, one can pinpoint the primary reasons of a problem and develop more efficient remedies. Furthermore, systems thinking enables people to foresee probable unintended repercussions of a suggested solution and make decisions that are well-informed and long-term in nature. In the end, adopting a systems-thinking perspective offers a more comprehensive and integrated approach to solving complex issues, leading to more effective and efficient solutions.

🤔 Reflection question
After learning about how to empathize with the people affected by your SDG’s social issue, how you might apply empathy to working with the members on your CTN Innovation Team?
Gurpreet's Answer
One must have the ability to empathize with people who are impacted by a particular social problem linked to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 in order to collaborate successfully with the CTN instructors and team members of the CTN Innovation Team. The team members must engage in active listening, put themselves in the shoes of those who are impacted, show support and empathy, and work together to accomplish their goals. Team members may create more effective and long-lasting solutions that have a good influence on the community by demonstrating empathy and actively listening to the needs, goals, and concerns of the affected individuals.
