An Invitation to Join #ChangeTheNow
In 2018 Georgian College, Canada’s first Ashoka Changemaker College, wanted to know if they could mobilize students from kindergarten to Post Secondary into a movement, effectively building a region of Changemakers. It was from here that #ChangeTheNow began.
Do good to do well
#ChangeTheNow was created on the beliefs that small acts can lead to big change and collaborations can turn into largescale movements. We believe together students’, educators’ and communities’ ideas can spark systems shifts that make will make our communities greener, healthier, safer, stronger and more inclusive!
Will you join us in creating the positive change and contribute to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals?

🤔 Reflection question
After completing CTN, what new awareness do you have for yourself (ME) and your community (WE) and what is one action you might take to continue to explore it?
Sahaj's Answer
The article suggests that individuals can take steps towards promoting diversity and inclusion by expanding their knowledge in these areas. This can be achieved by various means such as reading books, taking online courses, attending seminars, or listening to podcasts. The article also recommends seeking opportunities to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural events or community outreach projects, which can help individuals gain a better understanding and appreciation of diversity in their community. The ultimate goal of these efforts is to develop a more inclusive society that values and respects everyone's opinions and viewpoints.

🤔 Reflection question
After completing CTN, what new awareness do you have for yourself (ME) and your community (WE) and what is one action you might take to continue to explore it?
Anamica's Answer
I was consistently surprised by my own level of endurance and patience throughout my time working on the CTN project. My duty as the project manager was to learn more about sustainable housing at Georgian College Barrie. To gather a thorough guide, required going to many departments and contacting numerous resources. Despite the difficulties that developed along the road, I was committed to seeing the project through to completion. And now that the project is complete, I feel a renewed knowledge of and pride in myself. I would never have believed I had the endurance and tenacity to see a project like this through to completion. However, it isn't just about me. Thanks to the CTN project, I've learned about the needs of the Georgian College Barrie community of international students. Through our efforts, we produced an international handbook that gives newcomer students in Canada pertinent and practical information on housing. In our opinion, the international community around Georgian College Barrie will hopefully benefit significantly from this renovation. We are also certain that the changes we have brought about will endure as current and future students use our guidelines and handbook to negotiate the challenges of sustainable housing in Canada successfully. Overall, I am glad about what we've done and eager to see how it will benefit the Georgian College Barrie community of international students.

🤔 Reflection question
What did you learn about publicly sharing your ideas that you will carry with you in your future of work?
Sahaj's Answer
Sharing ideas can have benefits depending on the circumstances and the way in which they are exchanged. One advantage is that it allows for receiving input and confirmation from others, which can help to refine ideas. Networking is also made possible by exchanging ideas, enabling individuals to connect with like-minded individuals with similar objectives and interests. Moreover, making one's ideas public may lead to them being more widely recognized and respected within their field, which could result in new opportunities and collaborations. However, it is important to share ideas intelligently, considering potential risks such as intellectual property theft and negative criticism. For those looking to advance their careers, sharing ideas publicly can be a valuable strategy.

🤔 Reflection question
How might the prototype & test stage help you with overcoming a fear of failure or challenging your assumptions about what is ‘right’?
Sahaj's Answer
During the design process, the prototype and testing phase plays a critical role in helping individuals overcome their fear of failure and challenging their assumptions about what is "correct." It is important to keep in mind that the purpose of prototyping is to test and refine ideas rather than creating a flawless product. Individuals can develop a better understanding that failure is a natural part of the process and use it as an opportunity to improve their design through iteration rather than striving for perfection. Through the testing phase, individuals can obtain feedback from others, which can prompt them to question their assumptions and develop new perspectives. People can enhance their confidence in their abilities and become more receptive to new ideas by learning from both their successes and setbacks.

🤔 Reflection question
How might ideation help you develop your active listening skills to brainstorm and reflect on ideas effectively with your team?
Sahaj's Answer
The process of ideation involves generating, creating, and sharing new concepts, and it can aid in developing active listening skills while collaborating as a team. The members of the team are encouraged to listen attentively to one another's ideas and contribute their own ideas in an open and honest manner during ideation sessions. This process requires concentration, focus, and empathy, all of which are critical aspects of active listening. Moreover, the ideation process can help team members improve their skills in asking open-ended questions, clarifying, and building upon ideas, leading to a more cooperative and productive work environment. Ultimately, ideation can enhance communication, strengthen team relationships, and generate more innovative and creative ideas during brainstorming sessions and team meetings.

🤔 Reflection question
How might you explain the value of you having a systems-thinking mindset when attempting to define and understand a complex problem?
Sahaj's Answer
When tackling a complex topic, individuals can benefit from having a systems-thinking mindset. This approach involves considering the issue as a whole system, rather than a set of separate components, and analyzing how each element interacts and influences the others. Through this method, one can identify the root causes of a problem and develop more effective solutions by understanding the connections and interrelationships between the various system components. Moreover, systems thinking allows individuals to anticipate potential unintended consequences of a proposed solution and make informed decisions with a long-term perspective. Ultimately, adopting a systems-thinking attitude provides a more comprehensive and integrated approach to addressing complex issues, leading to more efficient and effective solutions.

After learning about how to empathize with the people affected by your SDG’s social issue, how you might apply empathy to working with the members on your CTN Innovation Team?
Sahaj's Answer
In order to work effectively with members and CTN instructors of the CTN (Community Transformation Network) Innovation Team, it is important to possess the ability to empathize with individuals who are affected by a particular social issue that is linked to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 11). The team members should actively listen, put themselves in the shoes of the affected people, display empathy and support, and work collaboratively to achieve their goals.
